I grew up in an orphanage in Seoul, Korea until I was adopted and brought to the United States at 11 years old. The first 11 years of my life were very sad and dark. I didn’t play, smile or talk to anyone. I was neglected and ignored. One day all the orphanage kids drew pictures of fruit.
My peers made nice comments about my drawing. My drawing was the only way I received attention, or felt that I was alive. I finally felt I was good at something. Art gave me hope; it was the light at the end of the tunnel. Ever since then art has been my passion.
I started painting as a teenager. I studied under Conrad Kaufman and Inja Cho. They both had a big influence on my painting technique and made me a better artist. I love flowers and beautiful landscapes, which I create in nearly all of my paintings. I enjoy being out in nature, capturing beautiful moments or scenery, letting those moments inspire and guide my art work. But what I truly love is when I get to share that beauty and inspiration with those around me to spread some of the light and enjoyment I feel.
